One of 13 Principles-Chapter 3

#11 Professional development for teachers and administrators that is both long term and ongoing (pg. 76)

I think that as with assessment, which is continuously going, professional development among educators and administrators is as well. I think that Conley wants the reader to understand the importance of P.D. I'm thinking that professional development is like staff development. As all of you know, this is when teachers and administrators get together and discuss issues, etc. I think that without professional development, there would be a decline in student learning and academic success. But that's my opinion. Basically, I believe that Conley's intentions are those listed above.

  1. I agree professional development should be an ongoing practice. As teachers it is vital to be a member of a community of learners. The world is growing every second and technology continues to advance. It is very important for educators to stay abreast of the changing technologies and incorporate useful technology practices into their teaching. Educators can do simple things such as exchanging ideas with other teachers and administrators to gain creative ideas for lessons that work and teaching tips. Another great way to grow and develop professionally is to reflect as much as possible. I think it is a great idea for teachers to keep a journal in which they write about the lessons they teach. Lessons that were a great success, things they may want to change in a particular lesson, ideas for future lessons, or even just to vent about an unfortunate experience.
